An ISRC [International Standard Recording Code] is a unique identifier for sound recordings. One code is allocated to each version of a sound recording, and only this code is used for that recording. The ISRC is specific to the recording and does not apply to the underlying composition.

How long is an ISRC good for?
Once assigned, the ISRC identifies the track throughout its life. No other sound recording should have the same ISRC and only one ISRC should be used to identify a sound recording. The ISRC functions like a vehicle identification number on a car or a serial number on a piece of equipment.

Does the change in ownership affect ISRC?
Changes in ownership do not affect the ISRC.  Any time an unchanged sound recording is reused on a new album or single release, a new ISRC is not needed even if there is a new sound recording owner.

To get ISRCs:
ISRCs are assigned to your release at the review stage. in order to assign these codes, you must complete the submission process at least and your ISRC will be provided to you.

To find your assigned ISRCs:

To locate your ISRC from your boomkit account follow the below steps:

-Log in to your boomkit account.
-Tap on Distribution
-Tap on “release new” music and then follow the onscreen instructions.
-After uploading a release on the right-hand side of the track you see icon:  Tap on it
-From here you will see a summary of your track information with the ISRCs listed in the detail column

About ISWC

ISWC stands for International Standard Music Work Code. Each composition is assigned 1 ISWC by the home performance rights organization upon registration (like BMI or ASCAP in the US). Boomkit does not obtain or assign the ISWC. If you are looking for ISWCs for a specific title, they are typically displayed in the performance rights organizations’ public repertoires.

ISRCs generated by Boomkit are valid, and legal and can and should be registered later without any problems.

Everything you need to know about UPC barcodes https://support.boomkit.me/docs/everything-you-need-to-know-about-upc-barcodes/ https://support.boomkit.me/docs/everything-you-need-to-know-about-upc-barcodes/#respond Wed, 13 Mar 2024 14:36:42 +0000 https://support.boomkit.me/?post_type=docs&p=1329 A UPC barcode is a unique 12-digit serial number that identifies your specific product among all the other products on the marketplace. All releases require a UPC barcode.

In this article, we will cover:
-Why you need a UPC
-If you can use your own
-Your system won’t take my barcode! What’s up with that?
-Do I have one, and how can I tell?
-Getting a UPC barcode from Boomkit

Why do I need a UPC?

You need a UPC if you want to:

  • Participate in our digital distribution program
  • Participate in our in-store distribution program
  • Have Boomkit report your sales to Luminate.
  • Participate in social video monetization.
This is because all of these organizations track, and report sales based on the UPC barcode.

Can I use my own UPC?
If you already have a UPC code for your release, you will have the chance to enter that into our system during the sign-up process

Your system won’t take my barcode! What’s up with that?

If you receive an error message while entering your barcode, here are some things to check.

    1. Make sure you’re entering exactly 12 or 13 numbers.
    2. Your barcode may already be in our system. Make sure you have not used this on a previous release.

Do I have my own UPC barcode? How would I know?

If you’ve already had a release under Boomkit or any distributing company, chances are you also bought a UPC barcode from that distributing company. You should be using that UPC barcode when you sign up that release with Boomkit.

Can I get a UPC from Boomkit?

If you don’t already have a UPC barcode you will be given the option to have one assigned to you while uploading your release FREE of charge.

What do I enter in the Songwriter and Publisher field for a Public Domain song? https://support.boomkit.me/docs/what-do-i-enter-in-the-songwriter-and-publisher-field-for-a-public-domain-song/ https://support.boomkit.me/docs/what-do-i-enter-in-the-songwriter-and-publisher-field-for-a-public-domain-song/#respond Wed, 13 Mar 2024 14:35:19 +0000 https://support.boomkit.me/?post_type=docs&p=1332

If a song’s music & lyrics were published before January 1, 1928, then the song is considered in the Public Domain in the US. Please visit pdinfo.com to learn more about Public Domain works and see a list of songs that qualify. It’s important to know that if a work falls within the Public Domain, only that exact version is not protected under US copyright law. Other people may have created arrangements for that work that ARE under copyright. Do your research, please!

If you have a public domain song, then you can list that information the following way:

Songwriter

For a Public Domain track, you can enter “Traditional” in the first name field and then “Song” in the last name field.

Publisher

In the publisher field when asked “Does this track have a publisher” select YES. Then list the publisher as Public Domain.

DO NOT enter your name, “N/A” or “None” in those fields.

If it’s NOT an old traditional song, but you just don’t know who wrote it, you need to do more research! You’re not supposed to be recording and releasing someone else’s song without paying the copyright owner of that song anyway, so if you don’t know who it is, you’re probably breaking the copyright law and we can’t be putting that out into the lawyer-infested waters of digital distribution, until you do things correctly.

If you are an international artist: keep in mind that Boomkit is a US based company and we must follow the public domain considerations for the United States. Though a song might be in the public domain internationally, it may not be in here in the United States. If this is the case, Boomkit cannot consider the title public domain but rather it would need to be marked as a cover song due to our copyright laws.
