What is TikTok? #
TikTok is a social media platform for creating, sharing, and discovering short videos. It hosts user-submitted videos, which can range in duration from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. TikTok is available for Boomkit Pro & Premium users only.
TikTok users can add song clips from the diverse music library to their videos, which is where you as a music creator come in. When you choose to deliver your music to TikTok, people will then be able to use your music in the videos they upload. Since it’s currently one of the most downloaded apps in the world, it’s a great place to discover your music.
How can I find my music on TikTok? #
You can find your music in two ways:
Method 1 (In-video search):
- Click the plus sign at the bottom of the screen. This will open up your camera. You will see ‘Add Sound’ at the top of the screen. Click that.
- Type in your artist’s name and song name in full in the search bar
- Then you can use your song in your video
Method 2 (Direct search):
- Open up TikTok and click the magnifying glass on the top right-hand of the screen.
- Type in your artist’s name and song name in full in the search bar.
- It will then come up with categories at the top. Click ‘Sounds’
- Your song will show up. You can listen to it by clicking the play button on your artwork.
- You can also use your song in your video by clicking the red camera icon on the right-hand side.
Please note that to ensure your tracks are properly detected on TikTok, we recommend choosing your music from the Sound Library directly in TikTok. If you add the music to the video yourself before uploading it to TikTok, their sound matching won’t always pick up the track you have used. We are happy to request a manual match for you should this issue arise.
How can I link my music to my TikTok profile? #
Currently, you need to have a verified TikTok profile to be able to link songs to it. If you don’t have a verified TikTok profile, there’s no way to link songs to it.
If you have a verified TikTok profile, you can link up to 3 songs on your profile. Keep in mind that each song needs to have at least 100 videos/reproductions for it to be linked to your profile.
Please reach out to us at [support@boomkit.me] and send us your ISRC(s) of each track (max 3 tracks) and your TikTok handle URL (needs to be a verified profile) so we can send this information to TikTok.
How do I get verified on TikTok? #
There’s no guaranteed way to get verified on TikTok. According to TikTok, they consider a number of factors before granting a verified badge, such as whether the notable account is authentic, unique, and active. Keep in mind, that they don’t consider the number of followers or likes on your account as a requirement when granting a verified badge. Having appeared in the media and having other social media profiles (Facebook, Instagram etc) which are already verified is also helpful.
Here’s how to request verification of your TikTok account:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu button at the top.
- Tap Settings and Privacy.
- Tap Manage account, then tap Verification.
༚ If you’re registered as a Business Account, then you can only apply for Business Verification.
༚ If you’re registered as a Personal Account, then you can apply for Personal and Institutional Verifications.
- Follow the steps in the app to submit a verification request.
Note: This feature is currently not available everywhere. Once you’ve submitted your request, you’ll have to wait for TikTok’s team to review your application. This can take up to 30 days.

How can I change the start time of my track on TikTok? #
When you upload your release, you can choose the TikTok start time of each track as part of the upload process.
If you’d like to change the start time for an existing track that’s already been delivered, please reach out to us at [support@boomkit.me] with the Release ID, track name and requested start time (exact timestamp such as 00:50) and we’ll update it for you.
Why did my TikTok video get muted? #
There are a few reasons why videos get muted. Please check the following:
- Is your TikTok profile a Personal Profile, not a Business Profile?
Business Profiles can only use sounds from the stock library, not from the commercial library your music is included in. So, you need to have a Personal Profile to be able to use your music in the videos you upload. - How long is your video?
If your video is longer than 1 minute, you aren’t able to use commercial music. You will only have access to a stock sound library if you upload videos longer than 1 minute.
Why can’t I use my music in ads? #
TikTok doesn’t allow the use of music from the commercial sound library in ads. You will need to use the stock sound library that is made available to you instead.
A workaround for this is to create a video using a third-party app (such as Cap Cut or Splice) add your song on there and then export it to your device. You can then upload the video as an ad with the song attached. In this way, you don’t need to use your music from the sound library.
How do I earn royalties in TikTok? #
The way royalties work in TikTok is a bit different from other platforms. As a music creator, you get paid for each video that’s created using your song, regardless of how many views each of those videos gets. So, each time a video is created using your music, you earn royalties from TikTok.
As with other platforms, keep in mind that it always takes a few months to receive the royalties that you earn.
